Breast plate

A piece of equipment that can be attached to the saddle in order to prevent it from slipping backward.

There are several types of breast plates:

  • The hunting breast plate: attached to the girth and to both top sides of the saddle.
  • The five point breast plate: attached to the girth, both top sides of the saddle and to both side of the girth at stirrup level.
  • The racing breast plate: attached to both sides of the girth at stirrup level with a leather strap going around the horse neck at chest level.
