First cross-country training for the young horse 2014-11-15T00:00:00+01:00

Cross country outings also belong in the basic training of a young horse. Familiarising a horse to new surroundings and on varying terrain helps increase their self-confidence and awareness of where they put their feet. Young horses learn to be brave and less spooky. We watch this video as Ingrid and her husband, Andreas Busacker, take three 4-year-old horses to their first cross country training session.

The discipline in which the horse will later be ridden isn’t important; the young horses learn step by step to master their first cross country jump, go through water and pop over a small ditch. Regular hill training builds muscles and increases sure-footedness as well as balance.  It is important to make the young horse feel safe in a new environment, not do too much at once and make the cross country training a positive experience for him so he looks forward to the next one.
