In this film series, you can see how Ingrid Klimke trains Just Paul, a 4-year-old gelding according to the classical principles of dressage. Just Paul was in training for about seven months with Ingrid Klimke and has developed so well that he is now about to participate in his first competition in the following days. He takes the half halts nicely, stretches to the bit and completes willingly the different movements asked by Ingrid.

The youngster will participate in a pre-novice dressage competition. Before riding the test in one piece, Ingrid Klimke trains each movement separately: transitions, stopping from the trot, standing still and promptly going back to trot after the hold.

After a break in working walk, Ingrid Klimke introduces the galop work. The transition to canter and back to trot are working well and fluently, even without the use of voice commands. Finally, the Olympic champion exercises the whole test in one piece. It provides security for the horse and the rider to be familiar with the test in order to complete it well on the competition day.

You will learn in this video:

  • How to introduce a young horse to the dressage test movements
  • What to expect from a horse going to his very first competition
  • How using your voice during the transitions can help you
